Newport Beach, located in Orange County, California, was incorporated in 1906. According to the 2010 census, the population as of 2010 was 85,186. Areas of Newport Beach include Corona del Mar, Balboa Island, Balboa Peninsula (also known as Balboa), Newport Coast, San Joaquin Hills, and West Newport. The Newport Harbor is a semi-artificial harbor formed by dredging an estuary during the early 1900’s. Several artificial islands covered in private homes include: Newport Island, Balboa Island, Little Balboa Island, Collins Island, Bay Island, Harbor Island, Lido Island and Linda Isle.

Newport Beach is known for its desirable Mediterranean climate, with weak temperature variation. Average temperatures throughout the year range from a high of 68°F to a low of 56°F, with less than 12 inches of rainfall annually. Summer months (June to September) average slightly higher with a high of 71°F and low of 63°F, with less than half an inch of rain.

There are many points of interest throughout Newport Beach, including the Balboa Pavilion on Main Street, Newport Center and the Balboa Bay Club. Newport Beach is also home to Fashion Island, Orange County Museum of Art, Hoag Hospital, Newport Pier, Balboa Pier, Balboa Fun Zone, Newport Harbor Nautical Museum, Balboa Inn, Balboa Island Ferry, Newport Sports Museum, Dory Fish Market, Newport Aquatic Center, Crystal Cove State Park and The Wedge.


Beach Life

It is rare that visitors come through Newport Beach without experiencing its myriad of beach-going opportunities. Some of the most popular beaches include Balboa Peninsula, Corona del Mar State Beach, and Crystal Cove State Park beaches, among others. The best surfing spots are located between Newport Pier and the Santa Ana River. The world-famous Wedge at the tip of Balboa Peninsula is a destination for surfers and body boarders.

Newport Harbor is a popular destination for sailing, fishing, rowing, kayaking and paddleboarding, and is the largest recreational boat harbor on the West Coast. The annual Christmas Boat Parade has been called “One of the top ten holiday happenings in the nation,” by The New York Times! The annual Newport to Ensenada International Yacht Race is the largest sailboat race in the world.
